Prompt: Pick an object and describe it using unexpected comparisons.
The book’s cracked spine slumps against the bookend, its pages frayed and withered like tattered bandages. The pages are died a faded brown along the top, stains like liver spots from a morning coffee some years ago. The cover, an old basilica in repose against looming towers, is double-faded – once by design and again by circumstance. A battleground covers your endpages, mildew and bookworms taking their hold, maggots infesting a corpse. A better home would have served this library well, but it was not on offer.
